My father, Harold, was the Shire Clerk in Gundagai. In 1954, the year I was born, he received a personalised calligraphy written invitation requesting the attendance of Mr and Mrs Heydon at a royal reception for a meet and greet with the young Queen Elizabeth. It came with a decree from Buckingham Palace to wear the enclosed special commemorative medal for the occasion. How attitudes to the Royal Family have changed in my lifetime!
