Good Old Days 01

Banking has certainly changed since I was a kid who owned a pre-decimal currency Commonwealth Bank money box. From memory, deposit slips were green and withdrawal slips were red. And in the little town I grew up in, Gundagai, there were at least four banks. There was the Bank of New South Wales (later became Westpac), the Rural Bank and the Commercial Bank of Australia (also became Westpac). The Commonwealth was the only one to survive but even Dollarmites have moved on. It’s been yonks since I owned a cheque book. And yonks since I went to an actual bank. That’s probably why 1600 branches across the country have closed in the last five years.
